SHOHEI OHTANI WITH A WALK-OFF GRAND SLAM TO BECOME THE FIRST DODGER IN FRANCHISE HISTORY TO JOIN THE 40/40 CLUB.
In his first season with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Shohei Ohtani made history on August 23rd against the Tampa Bay Rays by joining the exclusive 40/40 club. He achieved this milestone by stealing a base in the bottom of the fourth inning and capping the game with a walk-off grand slam. Ohtani became only the sixth player in MLB history to reach 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season, and the first to do so since Ronald Acuña Jr. in 2023, when the Atlanta Braves star hit his 40th home run in the final week of the season.
On Wednesday, Ohtani took his remarkable season a step further, becoming just the second player in MLB history to record 42 home runs and 42 stolen bases in one season.
With over a month of regular-season baseball still ahead for the Dodgers, Ohtani is on pace to make even more history. He is on track to become the first player to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in a single season.

Home Run No. 42 and Stolen Bases Nos. 41 and 42
Ohtani shined during his bobblehead night, which honored both him and his dog, Decoy. He crushed a home run in the first inning off Baltimore Orioles pitcher Corbin Burnes, sending the fifth pitch of the game 391 feet. According to ESPN Stats & Information, this marked Ohtani’s fourth leadoff home run of the season and his first at Dodger Stadium. He also stole two bases, making it the 10th game this season in which he hit a home run and stole a base. No other player this season has more than six such games.
