Last Weekend in Review: Upsets, Shakeups & Statement Wins
If you tuned in thinking it would be a mellow Saturday, you got a surprise show instead. A few results changed the narrative for teams jockeying for respect, rankings, and playoff hopes.
Big Upsets & Takeaways

- UCLA 42, No. 7 Penn State 37
This one’s instant classic material. UCLA, having started 0–4, stunned Penn State in a shootout. Quarterback Nico Iamaleava had a monster game: three rushing touchdowns plus two through the air in a performance for the ages.\
This marks the first time since 1985 that an 0–4 team knocked off an AP Top-10 opponent. - Florida 29, No. 9 Texas 21
The Longhorns were looking to bounce back, but the Gators had other ideas. DJ Lagway threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns (both to a true freshman making his debut). Texas slipped, and Florida picked up a big notch in confidence. - Oregon over Penn State in Double Overtime (Prior week)
While technically from the week before, this upset continues to ripple. Oregon knocked off the then-No. 3 Nittany Lions, 30–24 in double OT, further shaking up the top of the rankings.
The Tide played spoiler at Georgia, ending the Bulldogs’ home dominance (a 33-game streak) with a tight 24–21 win.
These outcomes forced a rework in the AP Top 25: Penn State and Texas both dropped out, Oregon and Ole Miss climbed, and Ohio State held firm at No. 1.

What’s on Deck: Previewing October 11, 2025
Week 7 brings an electric slate. Here are some games to keep your eye on — plus what to expect when Texas and Oklahoma clash again.

Notable Matchups to Watch
- Michigan at USC
A classic “east meets west” heavyweight showdown. Michigan (4–1) faces a USC squad (also 4–1) that’s been ranked higher by SP+ projections thanks to their offensive firepower. The Coliseum adds extra weight to the atmosphere. - Washington State / Big 12 etc. (Conference battles)
Conference games always bring that extra spice, and in the Big 12 you can bet there will be big swings. I’ll keep an eye on Cincinnati vs UCF too — Cincinnati is coming off a win over then-#14 Iowa State. - Michigan State vs UCLA
- Rice @ UTSA
In a regional rivalry, UTSA at home is dangerous. Rice tends to run up tempo, while UTSA leans on power and home crowd. Expect a boxing match. - Utah State @ Hawaii
A tricky road test for Utah State. Hawaii’s offense has been showing flashes. Could be a sleeper game.

Spotlight Game: Texas vs Oklahoma — The Red River Showdown
This is how tradition, rivalry, pride, and implications collide in college football. Saturday, Oct. 11, the No. 6 Oklahoma Sooners (5–0) and the Texas Longhorns (3–2) meet in Dallas’s Cotton Bowl — with history and momentum on the line.
If Texas wants to pull off the upset, they’ll need to dictate tempo, protect the football, and force Oklahoma off script. If Oklahoma is sharp, they’ll try to exploit mismatches, lean on the run, and control the clock.

Final Thought
After last weekend’s swirl of surprises — UCLA flexing, Texas stumbling, Georgia humbled — this week feels like a reset. The Red River Rivalry is the crown jewel of Week 7, but under the radar matchups could deliver their own fireworks. If you’re not glued to every game, Saturday should be a full day of compelling storylines
