Wallace led the European Masters from the outset, but it took extra holes to secure the title
Matt Wallace has returned to winning ways on the DP World Tour, capturing the 2024 Omega European Masters in Switzerland with a dramatic playoff victory. The 34-year-old Englishman, who earned his first PGA Tour win in 2023, struggled stateside this year, finishing 112th in the FedEx Cup standings and missing the playoffs. But his performance at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club signals a strong start to his offseason resurgence.
Wallace led the European Masters from the outset, but it took extra holes to secure the title. After shooting even par on Sunday, he found himself tied with Alfredo Garcia-Heredia at 11-under, as the Spaniard birdied the final hole to force a playoff. Both players found the fairway with their tee shots, but Wallace sealed the win with a stellar approach shot and a clutch birdie putt, earning his fifth DP World Tour victory and ending a six-year title drought.
Andrew Johnston, affectionately known as “Beef,” had a notable performance as well, finishing third for his best result in four years.
Wallace’s victory marks a significant step forward in what could be a promising comeback season. For golf fans, this could be just the beginning of a revitalized campaign for the Englishman.
