Saints need a win
The Week 7 “Thursday Night Football” matchup may not look like a headliner on paper, but there’s no shortage of intrigue as the New Orleans Saints host the Denver Broncos. This interconference clash is more than just a fight for a wild card spot; it marks the first time Sean Payton will face his former team since taking over in Denver.
Payton, a 61-year-old New Orleans icon, is best known for leading the Saints to a Super Bowl victory during his 15-year tenure with the franchise. His return to the Superdome will be emotional for Saints fans who fondly remember the glory years under his leadership. But should the city celebrate his return, or is it simply time to compete?
Since coming out of retirement to coach the Broncos, Payton has yet to replicate the success he achieved with the Saints. However, a victory over his former team could mark a turning point, pushing Denver to a winning record and injecting life into their season.
Both teams are limping into the matchup, plagued by key injuries. Fans will miss out on a potential showdown between Saints wide receiver Chris Olave and Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain II. Yet, this Week 7 battle promises to be far more competitive than their last meeting, which saw Denver field wide receiver Kendall Hinton as an emergency quarterback due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
As Payton takes the field in New Orleans once more, the real question is whether Saints fans should cheer for the legend or root against the opponent.
