Shohei Ohtani steals 50 bases
Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani carved his name into Major League Baseball history on Thursday, becoming the first-ever member of the elusive 50-50 club in a jaw-dropping game against the Miami Marlins. For those who don’t know, a 50-50 season means hitting 50+ home runs and stealing 50+ bases in a single season, a feat that has never been done before—until now.
Ohtani, already the fastest player to reach 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases, smashed his 50th homer in the top of the seventh inning. He had already stolen his 50th and 51st bases earlier in the game, showing off his complete domination on the field.
In a moment that Dodgers fans will never forget, the Japanese two-way sensation gave the team a commanding 14-3 lead with that historic home run. But he wasn’t done. Ohtani went yard again in the 9th inning, capping off an unreal performance with his third homer of the night.
His final stat line? Two doubles, a single, three home runs, and two stolen bases—one of the most epic individual performances of the season, or possibly any season.
It was also a night of firsts for Ohtani: his first-ever three-homer game and the first time he drove in 10 RBIs in a single game. Talk about clutch!
The Dodgers cruised to a 20-4 victory, clinching their spot in the playoffs in style.
“I’m just happy the team won,” Ohtani humbly said after the game. “This is something I wanted to get over with as fast as possible, but I’ll definitely cherish this moment for a long time.”
Dodgers fans, we’re witnessing history. Let’s soak it all in!
