Seattle football fans, get ready to welcome one of your own back home! The Seahawks have landed former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp on a three-year, $45 million contract, according to a source familiar with the deal. While the contract won’t be official until it’s signed, this move signals a major shift for Seattle’s offense.

Kupp, released by the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week, now steps in to help fill the void left by the departures of star receivers DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett. The Seahawks, who also made waves by trading quarterback Geno Smith and signing Sam Darnold, are clearly reshaping their roster for a new era.

For Kupp, this move is more than just a change of scenery—it’s a homecoming. Born in Yakima, Washington, and a college standout at Eastern Washington, Kupp is returning to his roots with a chance to revive his career in front of hometown fans.

Few receivers have had a season as dominant as Kupp’s 2021 campaign, when he won the receiving triple crown by leading the NFL with 145 catches, 1,947 yards, and 16 touchdowns. He then cemented his legacy in the playoffs, hauling in 33 catches for 478 yards and six touchdowns, including the game-winner in the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI victory over Cincinnati.

However, injuries have hampered Kupp in recent seasons. Over the last three years, he has struggled to stay on the field and hasn’t reached the 900-yard mark in a single season. Meanwhile, young Rams receiver Puka Nacua emerged as a new star, reducing Kupp’s role in Los Angeles’ offense.

The Rams wasted no time reloading at wide receiver, adding three-time All-Pro Davante Adams on a two-year deal worth up to $46 million. Meanwhile, Kupp, drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, leaves behind a decorated legacy in L.A., having recorded 634 receptions for 7,776 yards and 57 touchdowns.

Seattle fans can hope that a fresh start—and a return to his home state—will help Kupp recapture the magic of his Super Bowl-winning form. With a new-look offense in Seattle, Kupp’s veteran presence and elite route running could be exactly what the Seahawks need to stay competitive in the NFC.
